Centrists to meet and discuss potential for third party bid - in Oklahoma?

Centrists such as Michael Bloomberg and Chuck Hagel are meeting at the University of Oklahoma on the 7th to discuss the potential for a third party Presidential campaign. I might just have to go to this.

Welcome Kossacks

For those of you coming here for the first time on the strength of my first ever "recommended" Daily Kos diary, I welcome you to Sinister. It's an eclectic blog, and I encourage you to sift through the archives and familiarize yourself with it.

In the next few days, I will be premiering a new regular feature on Sinister with a catchy title and content that will inform as well as entertain. I will probably cross-post it to DKos.

Stay tuned!

Oklahoma winnable in November - if we nominate Edwards

Here's what struck me:

Among Democrats polled, former North Carolina U.S. Sen. John Edwards came in a distant second to Clinton but he had the highest favorable rating among all voters -- 44 percent. Edwards won head-to-head matchups with Republicans Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney, and he came within 3 percentage points of Huckabee.

Oklahoma hasn't voted for a Democrat in decades, folks. This is excellent news.

On the other hand,

Clinton lost head-to-head matchups against McCain (61-31), Huckabee (56-35), Romney (51-30) and Giuliani (50-38). And Clinton was viewed unfavorably by 61 percent of those surveyed.

Interesting switch up.

Something else interesting:

Soltow noted the importance of evangelicals in Oklahoma politics. Nearly two-thirds of those surveyed for the Oklahoma Poll identified themselves as evangelical Christians. Their highest marks went to Huckabee (51 percent approval) and McCain (49 percent), while fully two-thirds disapproved of Clinton and 61 percent had an unfavorable opinion of Obama.

Hmmmmm. Does this mean Edwards can do well amongst Evangelicals in the fall? Considering that two-thirds of those polled are Evangelicals, and in the poll, Edwards manages to beat both Romney and Giuiliani, and comes within 3 points of Huckabee, it would seem that Edwards is viewed at least somewhat favorably amongst the Evangelical set in the Sooner State.

I'm still voting for Kucinich on February 3rd because he's the only one who doesn't equivocate on health care, marriage equality, or the war, but the more I read about Edwards, the more I'm rooting for him as the "realistic" choice.

General Grant was an anti-semetic barstid

Amazing the things you learn from Wikipedia. Apparently General Grant issued several orders targeting Jews for expulsion from his territory during the Civil War. He was rebuked by President Lincoln. I had no idea...

Good article on The Storm

Tulsa World retrospective on The Storm. I tell you - this was the worst weather mess I've ever seen in this city - I've never been without power for more than 24 hours, and this time I was out of power from Monday morning to Saturday evening. The sheer number of trees that have literally destroyed themselves - it looks like an absolute war zone in some areas...

Lieberman backs McCain

Unbelievable. Just simply unbelievable. This guy is such a Republican piece of crap, and now it's just blatantly out there in the open. Bad Jew! Bad Jew! No latkes for you this Chanukah! Bad!

Welcome to the 19th century

Tulsa has been smashed by an ice storm that destroyed our electrical infrastructure. At my apartment, I have no power and no phone. Luckily, I have a gas fireplace and a gas stove, so I can cook and heat the place. The whole state has been declared a federal disaster. This is the first time I've ever been in a federal disaster situation, so it's a little disconcerting. The whole city is like war zone; all of the trees are either damaged or destroyed completely, there are limbs down everywhere, and it's just a bloody mess. God only knows when we'll get power back; AEP is saying next Tuesday, but I'm hoping it'll be sooner than that.

Rubla Rhan

Hunter of Daily Kos puts a poetic spin on the whole Giuliani Sex on the City scandal. Brilliant stuff.

I like being right.

Edwards looking at an opening as Hillary and Obama fight it out.

I said this would happen back in August.

Of course, back then I was an enthusiastic Edwards supporter. Now I'm not so much, though I don't hate the guy.
