Obama over McCain 53-39: CBS News Poll

Obama has just opened up a 14 point national lead against McCain according to the latest CBS News/NY Times poll.

Two pieces of extremely bad news for McCain:

Among independents who are likely voters - a group that has swung back and forth between McCain and Obama over the course of the campaign - the Democratic ticket now leads by 18 points. McCain led among independents last week.

McCain's campaign strategy may be hurting hurt him: Twenty-one percent of voters say their opinion of the Republican has changed for the worse in the last few weeks. The top two reasons cited for the change of heart are McCain's attacks on Obama and his choice of Sarah Palin as running mate.

The election continues to be over. It's even more over than it was a week ago, and after the debate tomorrow, it'll be even more over than it is now.

McCain's way past Bob Dole territory, folks. He's in Dukakis or even Mondale land now.

  1. The only problem with these numbers is that before the election, Gore was ahead in the polls. And before the election, Kerry was ahead in the polls.
