CD1 has candidates!

Oklahoma's Congressional District 1 has two candidates vying to replace John Sullivan: Georgianna Oliver and Mark Manley.

Oliver doesn't have her website working yet, but Manley does. I'm familiar with Manley's work in the local peace and impeachment movement, so I'm inclined to support his candidacy. However, in the spirit of fairness, both candidates' websites will now be featured in the "Links" section of this blog.

The primary election is July 29th.

  1. Impeachment movement? as in impeaching President Bush? I don't know this was an important cause for you.

  2. It is in the same way as, say, acheiving single-payer health care is - something I know isn't going to happen anytime soon, but that I think should be done.

  3. Let me start by saying, no stressing, that I think President Bush unquestionally deserves to be removed from office. Now, that said, I hope it doesn't happen. While Bush has been agruably the worst president in US history, the idea of Chaney serving as president even for a week is terrifying to put it mildly.
I also think (read: hope) democrates learned a lesson when Clinton was impreached. If you'll remember the Republicans rode that horse to death and it really turned off the American people. I really think that with Obama and this next election they have a real chance to address some of the polorization in recent decades. I hope they take the 'high-road' here and make their focus on bringing us together instead of bringing down the republicans. Just my two cents.

  4. I see what you're saying here, and it's a valid argument. However, there's another side to this. The Bush administration has "allegedly" committed some seriously illegal acts, possibly treason, possibly even war crimes. There's got to be a moral imperative to prosecute those crimes, no matter what the political consequences. I know impeachment isn't going to happen before Bush leaves office, but it's important to keep the idea of impeachment out there, so that people are aware of the need to do something to hold this administration accountable for its actions.

Oh, and if Bush gets impeached, Cheney will too, don't you worry. We'd have President Pelosi! Again, though, like I said, this isn't going to happen.

  5. I agree with you about criminal activity. However, there's no way charges will be filed as long as this administration is in office. I think as more facts come out, we will see charges filed against officials in his administration, but much like Scooter, they well be acceptable loses and they won't be able to pin anything on Bush or Chaney.
